What is Human Papillomavirus (HPV)?
HPV (Human Papillomavirus) is one of the most common viral infections worldwide.
At GreenLink Medical Clinic, we provide HPV vaccination with Gardasil® 9 for eligible children, adolescents and adults aged 9–45 years in Khatib and Yishun to help protect against HPV-related cancers and genital warts.
HPV is a virus that affects both males and females. It is spread by contact and about half of all sexually active males and females will contract it in their life time.
Although many HPV infections resolve naturally, some high-risk HPV types can lead to cancers, while others cause genital warts.
HPV is the most common cause of cervical cancer and about 2/3 of these are linked to HPV Types 16 and 18.
Vaccination with Gardasil® 9 provides effective protection against the HPV types responsible for the majority of HPV-related diseases. It covers 9 HPV types – 16, 18, 6, 11, 31, 33, 45, 52, 58.

Why Vaccinate Early?
Vaccination works best before exposure to HPV because it allows the immune system to develop protection before any infection occurs.
It is still beneficial for many adults who may not have been exposed to all HPV types covered by the vaccine.

Who should receive HPV Vaccination?

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Gardasil® 9 suitable for both males and females?
Yes. Gardasil® 9 is approved for use in both males and females. It helps protect against HPV types associated with cervical cancer, anal cancer, penile cancer, vulval cancer, vaginal cancer, certain throat cancers (oropharyngeal cancers), and genital warts.
What is the recommended age for HPV vaccination?
HPV vaccination is most effective when given before exposure to HPV, ideally between 9 and 14 years of age. However, many older adolescents and adults may still benefit. Gardasil® 9 is approved for individuals 9 to 45 years old.
Can I receive the HPV vaccine if I am already sexually active?
Yes. Even if you are sexually active, you may still benefit from HPV vaccination because you are unlikely to have been exposed to all nine HPV types covered by Gardasil® 9. Your doctor can advise whether vaccination is suitable for you.
How many doses of Gardasil® 9 are required?
The number of doses depends on your age when vaccination begins:
- 9–14 years old: 2 doses
- 15 years and above: 3 doses

Is Gardasil® 9 safe?
Yes. Gardasil® 9 has been extensively studied and is used worldwide. Most people experience only mild side effects, such as soreness, redness, or swelling at the injection site, which usually resolve within a few days.
Do I still need cervical screening after HPV vaccination?
Yes. HPV vaccination provides excellent protection against the most common high-risk HPV types, but it does not protect against every type of HPV. Women should continue to attend recommended cervical cancer screening (Pap smear or HPV screening) according to national guidelines.
Can I receive Gardasil® 9 if I have missed my vaccination when I was younger?
Yes. Many adults who were not vaccinated during adolescence may still benefit from HPV vaccination. If you are between 9 and 45 years old, speak with your doctor to determine whether Gardasil® 9 is appropriate for you.
